Bento lunches started in Japan (although they more often use sushi-type dishes), and the idea is to put all of your food in one bento box. There are also guidelines on ratios of veggies, fruits, calorie, etc... I disregard that. I'm still on the hunt for the perfect bento box (there are so many adorable ones out there-- I love these), so right now, I use glad ware. While it's pretty ghetto, it works quite well. I use silicone baking cups to separate the food, and it works out perfectly--when you put the top on the container, it touches the top of the baking cups, so everything stays in place. Here's my lunch and dinner for today:
Turkey Avocado sandwich, veggies, and wheat thins in one, and PB&J, dried apricots and trail mix in the other (healthy box + not-so-healthy box...) Yum.
Delicious, semi-nutritious, and better for the environment than using plastic bags-- everything is reuseable.
Perfect.
